Madlib, aka Beat Konducta, Quasimoto, DJ Rels, or Otis Jackson Jr. to his family, has had a long, esteemed and highly regarded career to date and is showing no signs of letting up. Beginning in the early nineties, Madlib’s first commercially released production came in the form of production for rap outfit the Alkaholiks in 1993, and when his own music in the group Lootpack came to the attention of Stone Throw’s label boss Peanut Butter Wolf in 1998, they we quickly signed up and this paved the way for the long and varied career that Madlib has enjoyed ever since.
Taking in jazz, hip hop and with collaborators including the late J Dilla as well as MF Doom, Talib Kweli, Freddie Gibbs and a whole host of others, Otis’ talent as a rapper, DJ and producer have lead to a seemingly tireless output, spanning sounds and genres with seeming ease. The latest collaboration and album with Freddie Gibbs has been met with universal acclaim and we for one can’t wait to see his DJ set at Field Day. Whatever he brings, it’s going to be big.Listen
