This show features two exclusive in-depth interviews; we talk to the legendary father of Ethio Jazz, Mulatu Astatke, who in many ways is considered the most crucial figure in Ethiopia’s musical history since the 1960s. He talks about the first time he left Ethiopia as a teenager to study music in the UK and how his music has evolved since then, introducing us to his musical influences.
We also talk to Glasgow electro-pop trio Chvrches about how the band formed, their songwriting process and their love of fellow Field Day artist Daughter.
Plus there is music from Everything Everything, Django Django, and How To Dress Well, as well as tracks from Do Make Say Think, Tim Burgess and Disclosure and an electrifying 16 minute drum solo by seminal drummer Ginger Baker recorded live at the Berlin Jazz Festival in 1978.
